Glenn Red's profile

TANGERINE TEMPO Beer Can Label

I recently had the opportunity to design my first beer can!  What is even more satisfying is that the project merged my love for music and for good craft beer.  This particular brew, dubbed "Tangerine Tempo" for its use of Ojai Pixie Tangerines from Churchill Farms in Ojai, CA, is a new collaboration by Pico Rivera's Brewjeria Company and Subsuelo--LA's premier 'tropical bass' music and dance event.  The goal was to create a design that conveys a tropical feel, makes the flavor clear, and lets everyone know that there is a musical theme linked to this product.  In addition to the speaker stack at the bottom, I created a grid of small rectangles in the background, reminiscent of LED meters on a deejay mixer or the equalizer lights on a vintage hi-fi stereo system.  The other requirement was to include orange/tangerine images as well as the iconic inflatable palm tree, both visual hallmarks of Subsuelo's long-running Sunday afternoon parties.

MOCK UP
To create a preview of the label as it would likely look wrapped around on a 16oz beer can, I brought a png image of the art into Adobe Photoshop and used the Warp - Cylindrical function to easily place the label onto the can's curved surface.  This image will also appear on the client's product distribution materials.
THE APPROVED LABEL DESIGN
This is what you'll see when you actually hold the can and turn it 360 degrees.  Here you can see cross section views of the fruit, the entire speaker stack, the whole inflatable tree, as well as the 'LED meters' in the background.  Of course, the QR code and UPC codes are unique to this particular product.
SEPARATE ELEMENTS
